> IBC Trip July 2007

From July 21 to 30, 2007, we travelled to the Black Hills and Rapid City, South Dakota to attend the International Bison Conference. My parents and brother and his family were also there. The weather was hot and sunny with temperatures over 100 F for several days on end. A few days were just right. All in all, the weather was great!

Before arriving in Rapid City, we camped one night in the South Unit of the beautiful Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. We enjoyed seeing the badlands and wildlife throughout the park. On the second night, we stayed at a hotel in Hot Springs, SD, and from there we moved into the conference hotel in Rapid City, the Best Western Ramkota Inn, for the following six nights. We enjoyed its excellent waterpark three afternoons. On the last night of our vacation, we stayed at a nice little hotel in Watford City, ND.

As we travelled through the Black Hills and attended events organized for the bison conference, we saw many wonderful things. Highlights include Needles Scenic Highway, Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, Iron Mountain Road, Reptile Gardens near Rapid City, the 1880 Train from Hill City to Keystone and back, Mount Rushmore, Flying T Chuckwagon Supper and Show, Taste of Rapid City and street dance, Days of '76 Parade in Deadwood, Homestake Open Cut Mine in Lead, IBC Family Day at Custer State Park, Crazy Horse, swimming and supper at Rob and Robyn's campground, the ferris wheel at Boondocks 50s Town, Roughlock Falls, and Spearfish Canyon.
