Sophia's first time on skates -- five days before her sixth birthday. I know... How could we have waited so long? What kind of small-town Canadian parents are we?!
She still doesn't have her own skates. We borrowed these from Bronwyn so she could participate in a Sparks, Brownies, and Guides event called "Skate & Sing" this evening.
And how did Sophia like skating? She LOVED it! She had a few moments of frustration, but was incredibly determined to try and try and try again. I was so proud of her for not wanting to quit. Toward the end of the hour of skating, Sophia kept wanting me to go farther and farther away from her (like all the way from one end of the ice to the other) and she would try to get to me without falling.
Later, after warming up in the church basement, all Sophia wanted to do was go skating again -- and, of course, there was nothing I could say or do to distract her from that thought (resulting in a doozy of a trantrum on the way home). That's okay. I know it's that kind of focus and determination that's going to make her a great skater someday. I see skate shopping and spending many hours at the rink in my future.
