Well, January is finally over and I'm breathing a huge sigh of relief! The past two months have been insane. We had 12 events/functions in December and 12 in January. Nine weekends in a row. We actually hosted six parties (five at our home) within six weeks. Hmmm, that's just a tad too much for my taste. Anyhow, everything went well and it's done, done, done!
I'm so happy that my February calendar is looking much clearer... however, it seems that my preschool volunteer work is heating up considerably. I have a bunch of immediate work to do as the Volunteer Coordinator, I have a board meeting this evening (postponed from last week), and I've been asked to help interview a potential new teacher. Huh?!
Let's review the facts here. Essentially, I'm the Volunteer Coordinator because I was late for the General Meeting and all of the easier jobs were already taken! Then I learned that the Volunteer Coordinator had to be on the board and attend board meetings. Then I was asked to email all of the parents about various things and I became Chief Communicator (my name for it). Now, I'm the "Parent Rep" according to the preschool's PAID Coordinator, and she wants me to help with a teacher interview. When she asked me if I'd be interested in helping with the interview, I said "No thanks...I don't really feel qualified to interview a teacher (except to offer my opinion as a parent)". Well, she responded that she'd like me to do it because I'm "professional and proactive."
So. Lessons learned: Never ever be late for a meeting in which volunteer jobs are up for grabs, and don't be too professional or proactive unless you want to do more work!
Update 10:50 p.m. What a great evening! *Not* I did preschool work for four and half hours straight--just what I want to do after working all day. Plus, I am going to help interview the potential teacher on Friday afternoon. I'm sure it'll be interesting, but...
