Have More Fun (4)

Funday2

I had a blast making this page! Monday's challenge was to "take a picture of a sign in your community and use it on a page." I immediately thought of a photo of a Tim Hortons billboard I had taken in January 2007. (Is that weird?! Remember, I took a LOT of photos in 2007 for my daily pic project! Anything was fair game.) I do recall thinking that sign was clever. "Not so much held as embraced." Not many companies could pull off a statement like that! It worked for me anyway.

I didn't have to look far for supporting photos. I had taken the photo of my coffee in my 40th Anniversary Tim Hortons mug in Feb 2007. It was a "daily pic" (the billboard was not). The mug was also a perfect candidate for a silhouette cut-out which was part of last Friday's challenge in Have More Fun. I was very pleased I could combine these two challenges because I hadn't done Friday's page yet (and probably would not have time this month, or next...).

Finally, the middle photo of our take-out coffee and tea. I took that one in the spring of '08. What can I say? I like taking pictures of everyday stuff! And the sunlight from the window was hitting the cups so nicely...

I wrote on the page, "Why would I photograph this billboard on a blustery January day? I guess it just spoke to me! Yes, we like our Tim Hortons -- especially in the spring when it's time to roll up the rim to win!" and then, "Neil - extra large steeped tea / Kim - large coffee two cream one sugar."

I must add that I wrote on this page with (almost) wreckless abandon! And it worked out. It's fine! I do not (or did not, anyway) find it easy to put my own handwriting on pages. My inner perfectionist prefers the precision of computer-typed text -- or other people's cool handwriting. And I hate making mistakes (even a tiny one could ruin a page for me). But I've been working on this a lot lately, and I'm really starting to enjoy just scrawling on the page. It's just SO easy!

Anyway, this page is a slice of life and I love it!

P.S. One of my classmates did her "sign" page about TH too. She called it "A sign of weakness?" and wrote about the lure of a Tim Hortons sign for her. Brilliant!

  • Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self. - Cyril Connolly

  • To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success. - Ralph Waldo Emerson
